Omaha, Neb. (September 3, 1972) – Omahan Bob Kosiski wheeled his 1970 Chevelle to victory in the Sunset 100 late model special at Sunset Speedway before 3,100 race fans.
Already having won races at the Nebraska State Fair and Playland Speedway earlier in the week, the 37-year-old collected $1,000 for his feature win bringing his weekend total to $1,700. The total purse for Sunday’s program was $5,000.
Kosiski held a nearly straightaway lead for the entire contest over second-place finisher Bud Burdick, also of Omaha. Kosiski held that lead consistently after lap 12 and by lap 100, had lapped the entire field with the exception of Burdick.
The top four in each heat filled the first 16 starting positions in the feature. Twenty-two cars started the main event.
Forty-eight cars checked in at the pit gates for the program.
Heat wins went to Bob Fitzsimmons of Omaha, Bobby Parker of Lincoln, Kosiski and Burdick while the trophy dash went to Parker. Two consolations were run with Al Druesdow of Omaha and Bill Kirk of Salix, Iowa, winning those.
