St. Paul, Minn. (September 2, 1960) – Ernie Derr grabbed the lead on lap 13, held to the checkered flag, and collected the $500 first prize during the Friday afternoon stock car races at the Minnesota State Fair.

It was Derr’s second winning day in a row and the second time the successful driver from Keokuk, Iowa, had beaten out Ramo Stott of the same community.

Derr was driving a 1960 Pontiac over the 25-lap course while Stott was behind the wheel of a 1960 Ford convertible.

No driver was hurt but a four car jumble on the second lap halted the feature run. Nick Kersting, winner of the first heat, went into a spin from his second position. Three other cars hit Kersting’s as it rested broadside on the track.

During the first heat, Robert “Doc” Narber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, overturned in the first turn and suffered minor cuts on his arm. It took emergency crews five minutes to free Narber from the wreck.

Stott was the second heat winner while John Jones of Marshall won the third heat. Jerry McCredie of Keokuk, Iowa, was the trophy dash winner.

The program was sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association.
