1985 – Sanger Tops Dubuque ‘All-Star Series’


Ed Sanger won the Busch/Winston All-Star Series feature at Dubuque. Paul Vaassen, Dubuque County Fairboard president, makes the trophy presentation. 



Dubuque, Iowa (August 8, 1985) – Ed Sanger of Waterloo drove past Steve Fraise of Montrose on the 39th lap and went on to victory in Thursday’s Busch/Winston All-Star Series at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway.

Roger Dolan of Lisbon started up front and led the first 31 circuits until Fraise got around him for the lead. Fraise eventually finished fourth, behind Sanger, Dolan, and Omaha’s Joe Kosiski. Dan dickey of Packwood rounded out the top-five.

Steve Kosiski of Omaha, who’s tied with Roger Dolan for the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Central Region point’s lead, finished eighth behind Davenport drivers Rollie Frink and Gary Webb. Gary Crawford of Independence and Mark Burgtorf of Quincy, Ill., rounded out the top-10.

Dick Barker of Dubuque won the semi-feature, while heat wins went to Burgtorf, Tom Hearst of Wilton, Terry Gallaher of Hannibal, Mo., and Dolan.
