1984 – Bruggeman Tops Proctor Silver

Proctor, Minn. (August 14, 1984) – Jim Bruggeman, White Bear Lake, Minn., captured the 12th annual Silver 1,000 40-lap late model event Tuesday night at Proctor Speedway.

Jeff Hinkemeyer of St. Paul took the early lead and paced the field for the first four laps before Pete Parker of Kaukauna, Wis., took command on the fifth circuit. Parker dominated the majority of the contest before Bruggeman began to make his move with 10 laps to go.

Bruggeman tried to get by on a few occasions, but slower traffic hampered his attempts. Finally, on lap 34, Bruggeman slipped inside of Parker for the lead. From there, he increased his margin by several car lengths to notch the victory.

Parker settled for runner-up honors followed by Tom Steuding of Altoona, Wis., Tom Nesbitt of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ont.

Hinkemeyer, Cryderman, Parker, and Dick Christman of Superior, Wis., were heat winners while Les Duellman of Fountain City, Wis., won semi-feature.
