1979 – Wolfgang Wins North Starr Sprints

Doug Wolfgang

Blaine, Minn. (August 12, 1979) – Twenty-mile-an-hour winds and 60-degree weather didn’t deter anyone from coming out to see the World of Outlaws at North Starr Speedway.

A field of 33 sprinters were on hand for time trials with Doug Wolfgang setting fast time at 20.66 seconds.

The trophy dash went to Wolfgang with Randy Smith finishing second. Heat wins were captured by Steve Howard, Jack Hewitt, and Bill Dollansky. Jerry Richert won a hard-fought battle over Bob Geldner to win the B-main.

Wolfgang led from start to finish in the 30-lap A-main, with only one caution to slow the field down. Lee James, Steve Kinser, Rick Ferkel and John Stevenson would round out the top five.
