Denny Nyari accepts his trophy after winning the Red Bud 400 at Sun Valley Speedway.
Anderson, Ind. (August 17, 1973) – Denny Nyari, South Bend, took over the lead on the 184th lap and went on to win the seventh annual Red Bud 300 for late model stock cars at the Sun Valley Speedway on Friday night.
Nyari, driving a Chevelle, bested runner-up Mike Eddy of Kawkawlin, Mich., by more than a lap on the quarter-mile, high-banked paved oval and set a record for the distance.Nyari ran the 300 laps in 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 42.32 seconds, exactly 42 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 1971 by Don Gregory of Columbus, Ohio.
Nyari, who pocketed $1,600 from a $6,500 purse, averaged a record 76.239 miles per hour.
