1962 – White Wins Second 200-Miler at Milwaukee

West Allis, Wis. (August 16, 1962) – Don White of Keokuk, Iowa, won his second straight 200-mile late model stock car race on Thursday in an event marred by a 10-car accident at the Wisconsin State Fair before 16,863.

The accident, which happened on the third lap, sidelined eight cars, including those of Norm Nelson, Eddie Sachs, and A.J. Foyt. No one was seriously injured.

White won at the record speed of 89.823 miles per hour. He set the record on July 15 in his other Milwaukee victory of 89.115 miles per hour. White’s share of the $13,575 purse was $2,825.

Finishing 13 seconds behind the winner was Paul Goldsmith, who led for the first 71 laps. Dick Rathmann was third, as only the top three finishers completed the 200 miles.
