Knoxville, Iowa (August 9, 1983) – “Bullet” Bob Ewell of Forney, Tex., drove to the 25-lap National Championship Racing Association feature event at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville on Thursday night.
The victory was worth $2,000 to Ewell, who closed within 50 points of NCRA point leader Jerry Stone.
Ewell, who also won a NCRA dirt champ race at I-70 on Sunday, took a lap 14 restart lead when Doug Wolfgang stalled on the backstretch. Herb Copeland had led to that point but dropped back to second when the green flag flew again.
The yellow displayed again on lap 16 for Gary DeWall, who lost an engine and on the restart, Copeland fell from the field with apparent mechanical issues. Tony Armstrong inherited second place.
At the checkers, nine laps later, it was Ewell well out in front with Armstrong, Greg Wooley, Jiggs Founds, and Stan Constant rounding out the top-five finishers.
