Marshalltown, Iowa (August 1, 1975) – Curt Hansen maneuvered his way from far back in the field to capture the 30-lap open competition late model stock car special at the Central Iowa Fair on Friday night. The Dike hot shoe collected $700 from the $4,000 purse.
Hansen started a distant 18th in the 23-car field and threaded his way around the tight, high-banked quarter mile, catching the race long leaders, Red Dralle of Evansdale, and D. Arthur Nesteby of Waterloo, on lap 19.Hansen slipped by Nesteby on lap 24, and with a bit of last-lap heroics, edged by Dralle on the final go-round for the hard-earned victory.
Dralle had earlier won his heat and had led the feature for 29 laps from his front row starting spot.
Jack Mitchell of Cedar Falls, Nesteby, and Don Hoffman of Des Moines were the other heat winners. Bob Hesse of Waterloo won the 15-lap consolation.
