Vinton, Iowa (August 4, 1955) – Cal Swanson, Darrell Dake, and Carroll Hilmer put on the show for stock car racing fans Thursday afternoon at the Benton County Fair.
They finished in that order in the 15-lap feature after winning in all but one of the point-winning events.
Hilmer, who the feature in Tuesday’s program of the Hawkeye Racing Association here, set fast time in time trials and won the second heat. Swanson won the first heat and Dake was victorious in the semi-main.
Vic Payton, who finished fifth in the feature, won the third heat before an estimated crowd of 1,800.
