1967 - Nebraska driver wins at Fairmont

Fairmont, Minn. (July 3, 1967) - A field of 28 super modified race cars competed for a purse of $2,000 at Fairmont Raceway on Thursday. The trophy dash, which consisted of the six fastest cars in the time trials, was won by “Little” Joe Saldana of Lincoln, Neb., in 2:14.7.

Jay Woodside of Kansas City, Mo., won the first heat in 3:47.7, while Dick Forbrook of Morgan, Minn. won the second heat in 3:54.1. The third heat was won by Jan Opperman of Lincoln, Neb., in a good time of 3:41.1. The three heat races were of 10 laps each.

The “B” feature was won by Stacey Redmond of Mason City, in 3:41.1.

The “A” feature, which paid $300 for first place, was won by Jan Opperman of Lincoln, Neb. He took the lead from Jay Woodside of Kansas City, Mo., during the last lap of the 25-lap event.
